Typically held in Brazil and Trinidad, Carnival is known as a festive season. The Miami Broward Carnival is a festival that reflects and celebrates the spirit of a more traditional Carnival by hosting many of the same parades and performances. The pinnacle of the event is a massive procession, which highlights over 18,000 performers in elaborate costumes and is directly followed by a judging of the individual performance groups. The winning band is awarded the title of "Band of the Year," and receives a sizable cash prize. The event also offers performances by steel bands, costume competitions, numerous concerts and over 50 food and drink vendors not to be missed.
